Garmin Edge 200 GPS

Edge 200 features a high-sensitivity GPS receiver with HotFix satellite prediction to calculate your position faster. That means when you turn it on outdoors, it finds satellites quickly so you can get on with your ride. It also alerts you if you're moving but the timer is not running. Edge 200 has an Auto Pause feature so it will stop the timer when you're not moving, then restart automatically when you're rolling again. You also can set alerts for distance, time or calories to make it easier and more fun to achieve your goals.

The Edge 200 comes with 2 sets of mounts in the box but I believe additional mounts can be purchased separately.

Yes you can buy other mounts for them ... The Garmin does come with 2 (Quarter turn) mounts

It comes with a second mount in the box and if you contact garmin or check out ebay i think you will find extra mounts from a supplier in hong kong !

Yes, it uses the same mounts as the Garmin 800 but will have at least one extra mount with it. My 800 came with a mount kit which is 2 mounts and I bought another kit which is another 2 mounts.

It is the quarter turn mount, the link is below.

Nope this is all done by GPS so you can put it on as many bikes as you like .. Cadence is not an option on the 200 as it is not compatible ..

Nope, doesn't require a cadence sensor - Infact, it doesn't even support the use of such a sensor.

How good is this compared to the 500???

What would you recommend, this model or the 500 if you had to choose???......Personally I like the 800, but a little on the pricey side :0(.

The 200 is just a smaller version of the 500 but the 500 can take Heart rate cadence and power also this is what the 500 does over the 200 :

The new Edge 200 is a GPS giving basic data compared to the 800 and 500 , it still has access to Garmin Connect and ghost rider . This is still a very impressive unit , but it all depends on how much information you require .

Yes it shows Gradient but does not and is not compatible with Heart rate if you would like heart rate the Edge 500 and 800 take heart rate

No, you do get a summary of altitude gained, and a graph of altitude and speed when you download to PC though

Use of unit with Garmin Connect

I understand that the Edge 200 can be used with Garmin Connect so that cycle routes can be downloaded and followed. How does this work in practice (i mean on-the-road following)? A review i read mentions 'breadcrumbs' - how does that work? Does the unit tell you which direction to turn and when?

Once you have made a course and sent it to your device it shows you a GPS route witch is an arrow that guides your around your Course ... There is also a back to start function .. When pressed it will take you back to the start with a GPS map ..

There is a basic direction arrow to follow on the screen , no map . Fine for intersections but forks in the road can be interesting , however there is an alert for wrong direction .

I don't think it would be suitable as it is fairly bulky and would be awkward to mount on a wrist strap.

Yes you can via the Garmin connect website. You do the ride first and then set it as known route.
