If you use mapping like the City Navigator dataset that comes with some Garmin packages yes you can. You can also view the map in a 3D style that's akin to a car sat nav if you want.

yes the mapping works just like a cars sat nav but it has a bit more flexibility because you can set it to avoid main roads and just use minor roads suitable for cycles.

Can you use this GPS in a car as well?

In order to not have to buy two separate satnavs, would this work in a car too? I know that the other way round does not work as a car satnav gets confused by the slower speeds and the way a bike moves.
