Hi, the cadence has nothing to do with your gears whatsoever. It works by counting and timing the crank revolutions. It will work with your bike no problem.

The cadence sensor is strapped to crank/pedal arm so will work on any cassette type

The cadence sensor will work with any casette. It attaches to the stay and picks up its signal from a magnet on the crank (for cadence) and the wheel (for speed).

The Edge 800 with cadence would be fine on whatever amount of sprockets you run as it makes no differance.

The supplied chest strap should be adequate, it is ANT+, and therefore not compatible with Polar chest straps.

The Garmin devices work only with ANT+ chest straps. I think Polar chest straps are not ANT+ compatible. Premium heart rate monitor strap dimensions are: 1 x 6.1 x 3.3 cm.

Question

Can it be used with a turbo trainer to measure heart rate, cadence, speed, & calories and can u use gamin connect to record your progress ?

answer 1
Yes, the speed/cadence sensor has a spoke magnet which records speed and distance on the turbo. HR works as normal and it does report calories burned, but its debatable how accurate this is, either on the turbo or on the road - and its difficult to compare a turbo ride with a road ride. Garmin connect does record all your data, except mapping a route obviously.

answer 2
You'll be able to record HR, cadence and speed from the wheel magnet. I wouldn't put much faith in the calories.

I don't feel that Garmin Connect will be the best place to track progress, as it doesn't really offer any in depth analysis of your ride data.

Yes, it can be used with a turbo trainer and it will show you all you asked for including the calorie calculation.

Question

Does the 800 have a lap time function?

I have read that unlike 705 there is no lap time function. Considering a lot of my training is done in Richmond Park thsi would be a major drawback.

There is a LAP/RESET button as on the 705 to capture your time at a particular point. You can also set the automatic lap function for time or distance as you could on the 705 which records your time distance for every mile / km.

Question

My Edge 800 with European maps arrived today. The map loaded on to it is the "Intl standard base map" which has limited detail.

Also in the box is a City Navigator Europe NT SD card which is too big for the device and when inserted into the computer it states no files found? Please confirm how I can upload the detailed map onto the device?

The mico-SD card is slotted into the top of the SD card. Remove this mico-SD card, insert it into the Edge 800 and the map will be recognised. It should require no downloading or installation.

answer 2
There is a smaller SD card inserted into the larger casing. You need to find the small lip on the edge and pull out. You will now have a card that will fit your Edge 800. To view better maps within Base Camp you need to have the card inserted into the unit and then connected to your computer with the supplied USB cable.
