Customer questions and answers for
Crud Road Racer MK2 Mudguard Set

Traditional mudguard construction dictates a sturdy design, with bolted fixing at the brake bridges, and or rigid plastic utilised in the main arc. This principle has remained unchanged for a century or more. The Crud Roadracer concept turns orthodox road mudguard design on its head, Crud designers reasoned that if you could 'float' the mudguard off the rim, then you could do away with a lot of the traditional fixings. The Crud Roadracer mudguard (180 grams for the pair) just hovers in place so there is nothing to rattle or rub. The brushed instantly dampen any road vibration, settling the mudguard into it's neutral central position. In extensive tests Crud have failed to wear the pile against the rim, and the friction involved is so light as to be immeasurable.

Question

Can these accommodate 25mm tyres?

I recently bought the Lapierre RCR900 from Evans (great bike btw) which has 700C x 25 wheels/ tyres. Looking at some forums some say these struggle with anything above 23mm tyres and some say they accommodate 25mm fine. Just wanting to check the position on this.

The key to fitting the Roadracers, Mk1 and 2, is this....can you get at least a 4mm allen key between the top of the tyre and the forks-brake bridge-brakes? If you can, then the Roadracers will fit. Doesn't matter what tyre size, it's the clearance that is important

Cheers

answer 4
Hi, I'm afraid that the width of these mudguards is too narrow to accept the tyre that you are currently running.

These 'guards are designed for 23mm wide tyres and will accept 25mm tyres but you begin to see 'rubbing' issues at 28mm. This means that your 32mm tyres are just beyond the acceptable range.

You could consider the XL version of the SKS Raceblades or you could fit a narrower set of tyres.

Think these guards would only suit tyres @ 23 or less as they are quite narrow and close fitting.

answer 3
Tyre size is not that important-clearance is. If you can get a 4mm allen key comfortably between top of tyre and brakes-frame-forks, then it will fit.

they recommend these for 23-25mm tyres. I have 25's on and they fit comfortably but i wouldn't like to say that you could stretch to a 32 as the curvature is quite pronounced and they're designed to fit 5mm from the tyre

Yes they should be ok on 28c tyres, any larger and you may have problems. Please retain your receipts and packaging though incase of any problems, so you can claim a full refund.

answer 2
They fit well on my Cannondale Synapse so expect ok for the CAAD8, suggest you try them, you can offer the parts to the bike to get an idea and if no good take them back. Given how slim these are and the fact they are designed for use on low clearance road machines I really cannot see you having an issue.
They are easy to fit, just put some insulating tale on the fitting/contact points to protect your frame. To remove you undo a few cable ties and either undo four thumbweels on the connecting point or remove the rubber band connecting points.
I used them on an all day sportive and they did a fantastic job of keeping me dry when others were getting soaked.

answer 2
There's no reason why these won't work with rear rack. Although if you can mount a pannier rack, you can fit regular mudguards. It doesn't sound like these are what you're looking for.

answer 3
They technically will work yes as they avoid using any of the same mounting points - they do have a very low clearance and so may not be suited to deep and wide tyres which you may be using on such a bike - as long as they are within 25mm you should be ok.
