will this rack require a lighting bar on a Y reg Fiat Seicenti Sporting 3 door model? And would it need a add on (cross)bar for a ladies hybrid bike?

I would guess it would hold it high, away from the plate and lights, you can essentially set it as high as you need to within reason by adjusting the straps.
I don't think a ladies bike (sans crossbar) would sit properly so unless there is some way to securely add a cross bar (and it would have to be SERIOUSLY secure) I don't think this would suit a ladies bike..sorry..

I've fitted my Saris Bones 3 to a few different vehicle and sure it will fit your BM. Would highly recommend it. Will need some adjustment but use the stickers once it is set up as a guide and it should be a doddle to fit.

Yes it is and no there are not:
On my car a Peugout 106 I have to position the nearside pedal away from the body and wrap the crank and the front Disc with a thick cloth. You need to secure the bike once its on the rack. I bungee the front wheel to the the little towing loop (offside rear) on the car and bungee the front wheel to the frame to stop it swaying.

see my review..

The bike is quite close to the car, so it is possible it will hit the back of the car. You would need to use some king of padding to stop this occuring.

With regard to straps. There are no straps provided to stock the bike swinging.

Question

long term use

Hi

Can you tell me if this is suitable for long term use. I'd like to use it to carry the mountain bike to local trail centres, around 1-2 hours on the motorway. A little concerned by the manufacturers statement 'safely transport your bike to and from your local bike shop' would hope it's useful more than this.

Thanks

Hi - as I mentioned in my review, I reckon that 20 mins is about my limit!

The bike 'dangles' off the back of the car and you need to tie it in somehow or other. This puts pressure on inappropriate points and - even when you use the saris foam pad thingies - they work free.

I can't see this being ideal for either bike or car and would go with fork-mount roof bars without a doubt for long journeys unless you have a towball mounted carrier.

For occasional and brief journeys though these are brilliant: small, light, good quality and a breeze to fit in moments.

It's a 2008 doblo MPV with a single flat upward opening boot. (not the double door van type)

Couldn't find a doblo on their website but a Citroen Berlingo is very similar and was listed as OK
