This is a rear specific hub gaurd, it is desgined to work on the driveside, but will also work on the non driveside. Hope this helps.

check if he rides with 4 stunt pegs if not he will only need one if he does 2 would be recommended

You can use it on both sides of rear hub so buy 2.

this hubguard goes on the side with the chain, hence the cut out in the side, if your son has pegs on both sides of his bike at the back, then you would need this and then a separate one for the other side. If your son has pegs on the side without the chain on, as is common, then you would not purchase this one, but rather a full hubguard that covered the whole hub.
