Hi
The T refers to the number of teeth on the sprocket. The size of the sprocket on the rear and the chain ring on the front influence how easy it is to pedal. The smaller the rear sprocket the harder to pedal, but this is the reverse on the chain ring.
9T will be harder than your current sprocket, you can just change the sprocket you currently have to make it easier to pedal, I would suggest giving a store a call to discuss your options, as you caulk also change the chain ring.
